It looked like Christmas in April. Crates full of artificial branches sat beneath the previously installed section of the monopole. Workmen spent the majority of Wednesday on the George Washington Recreation Center driveway assembling the top section of the Lego-like tree made by Stealth Concealment Solutions, Inc.
Safety was a primary concern as they disassembled and reassembled both the tree and the crane to ensure that they were in compliance with weight limits. When the crane slowly hoisted the upper section of the pole for the third time, the wind promised to bring an additional challenge to the effort.
An experienced lineman, waiting up in the installed portion of the pole, patiently rotated the upper section into position before guiding it on to the base securely.
Instead of a star, this tree sports a triangular antenna on the top. It will eventually be ornamented with more antennae as the tower will be shared by multiple wireless carriers. The cell tower is expected to be fully installed and operational by August 2018.
